I recently took a trip from Toronto to Buffalo, excited to use my Textr eSIM. Before heading out, I installed the eSIM on my phone, set it as my data line, and turned on data roaming, expecting everything to work smoothly once I crossed the border.
But when I got there—no internet. I could see the network provider’s logo, but nothing was loading. It was frustrating at first, but once I figured out what was happening, it was easy to fix. If you find yourself in a similar situation, here’s how you can troubleshoot and get back online quickly.
Common eSIM Issues:
- "No Internet Connection" or "Cellular Data Not Working": Your phone might not connect to the network, and you could see "No Service" or "Searching for Network" without any clear explanation.
- Stuck on "Activating": Your eSIM status is stuck on "Activating..." even after it’s added to your phone.
- "Data Roaming is Off": You might see a message like "Turn on Data Roaming to use cellular data" if roaming isn’t enabled.
Quick Fixes for eSIM Issues:
- Turn On Mobile Datasome text
- Go to Settings > Mobile Data and make sure "Mobile Data" is switched on.
- Reset Your Connection (Airplane Mode)some text
- Turn on Airplane Mode for 10 seconds, then turn it off to refresh your network connection.
- Enable Data Roamingsome text
- Go to Settings > Mobile Data > Mobile Data Options and enable "Data Roaming."
- Update APN Settingssome text
- Check your eSIM provider’s website or app for the correct APN settings and enter them manually in Settings > Mobile Data > Mobile Data Network.
- The Access Point Name (APN) controls your data connection, and sometimes it doesn't update automatically. Each country or region may need a different APN, so it’s important to have the right one.
- Restart Your Phonesome text
- A quick restart can reset your network connection and fix most issues.
- Manually Select a Local Networksome text
- Go to Settings > Mobile Data > Network Selection, turn off "Automatic," and choose a local carrier from the list.
- This trick saved me when I was in Buffalo.
- Reset Network Settingssome text
- If nothing else works, reset your network settings by going to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This will erase saved Wi-Fi passwords.
- Contact Your eSIM Providersome text
- If the problem persists, reach out to your eSIM provider’s support team to check if your plan is activated and set up for the region.
